When one is outgunned four to one it makes sense to keep the distance open.  When you loose your aft main gun early in the fight, you better remove yourself from the zero to four situation.

QuoteHer ship, if you please.
Sorry. That accidentally slipped in since I am used to ships being considered to be female and you mentioned "Sereniteit and his redoutable Kapitan" which I reread a couple of time.
... of course the captain could be a cross-dresser. :D

swamphen

That might be the case if it was one of your ships, Walter.  :P

And remember kids, he(/she) who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day...
(And she was extra cautious here, also, as before the battle she was overheard to tell her XO, 'I have a bad feeling about this...'  ;) )

Desertfox

I guess that applies to any encounter with Swiss Forces?  ;) After all no German who has stayed to fight has stayed afloat...

Sereniteit runs...again. Once again the 'Great' Schilling runs away! This time against the veteran cruiser Anchorage. In a battle near German Samoa, Anchorage defeated and forced its larger oponent to run. Once again the Great Swiss Navy proves its superority over the cowardly Germans.

Hmmm... Confederate Naval intelligence seems to tell a different story.
The German ship engaged the Swiss who were luckier and severely damaged the Germans.
The Swiss ship then 'advanced towards homeport' to prevent the humiliation of running out of coal.

Seems like a draw to us on this side of the Pacific.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

The Swiss Navy claims "victory" but does a general reluctance to engage and running away after scoring a single hit mark a "victory"? The farce of two damaged ships returning home running into eachother by the chance of Pothos does not a decisive battle make, we think, especially as it was the Swiss who left the field of battle...

April 9th

Alliance crushes the Alliance! Just yesterday the powerful battle cruiser Alliance dealt the unHoly Alliance a bloody blow, wiping out a powerful German squadron of two heavy cruisers. The Roon and Yorck are destined never to return to harbor. Once again the Swiss Navy returns victorious!

Last minutes of the Roon, with Alliance in the background and a destroyer conducting rescue operations.

... you know, if those DKB vessels were exactly like that vessel that is sinking in that picture, then the outcome of this fight would have been quite different... :)

Another enemy Battleships hits the dust! The dreaded Rouge Battleship is no more! Sunk while attempting to bombard Hobart, this abomination will no longer haunt the Seven Seas. May all the enemies of New Switzerland meet the same fate.

13 April

The Australian mainland is not safe! Brandenburgian forces have attacked and destroyed Swiss naval facilities near Adeliaide. Let this be a warning and a lession in the ineffectiveness of the protection of the Swiss Republic of the Kingdom of Australia!

Victory at Sea! Swiss destroyers put the fear of God into the enemy forces trying to attack New Amsterdam. In a series of separate engagements, the very small Swiss force sank 3 enemy destroyers, a light cruiser, a transport, and blew up a powerful Dutch Armored Frigate. As Tasmania has become the grave of the German Navy, so shall the seas of New Amsterdam become the grave of the Royal Dutch Navy.

June 17th

The enemy gloats over New Amsterdam, much like the mouse gloats over the cheese in the trap. Yes the jaws are closing over the enemy, and he will not escape...
