Sayyid Ali bin Hamud Al-Busaid is the current Sultan of Zanzibar. Although Kaiser Friedrich IV holds the title of Grand Duke of Zanzibar, the islands are in fact a semi-autonomous state, internally independent but relying on the Reich on external economic and defense matters; therefore the Sultan is the legitmate ruler of the state.

The current Sultan has held the office since 20 July 1902, taking the office upon the death of his father. His heir is Sayyid Khalifa bin Harub Al-Busaid, his brother-in-law.
