Currently, Keeling Island has no telegraph communication to the outside. It is the first thing the Dutch did when they learned the situation from a French point of view.

OOC
And now it is up to Korpen to act or go home with the 202 French survivors of a Day with the Sharks.
The French marconies were bad, but the Marconi on Dali is state of the art for a merchant, and the Dutch naval patrol zones aren't 100 miles away from 5°S 90°E

*********************************************************************************

The fact that Keeling island, the potential Tortuga of the Pacific is a NS sponsored pirates nest is no secret to the world, thanks to the NS defending the time honored tradition of Privateers.

Who do you think has the most troubles from that hellhole?
The MK what doesn't have any far reaching merchant fleet- having elected the DKB to do that for her?
France, what uses UNK or even NS freighters?
Firenj, a country in starting faze without much outside interference?

Only a few countries have a large merchant marine here.
The UNK- mainly Atlantic trade- but with the ACM aquisation, worldwide-
DKB, just because they have colonies all over.
The Dutch, who have even more interests in a smooth merchant traffic in those waters.
And then the NS.....

Korpen, I'm confused. What ships do you have where? And when?
At dawn, 20h after the battle.
At Keeling, The Armoured frigates de Zeven Provincien and Willem van der Zaan as well as the sloop Java. With 200 French survivors.

Somwere in the Indian ocean: The Armoured frigates Flandern and Hang Tuah supported by the sloops Kuching and Brunei.

Both grups made contact with the Swiss grups (sighted flares / approched Keeling) during the night, but did not approch untill around dawn.

The Following message is sent by Java to the Swiss at keeling with flags and lights:
We request that commanding officer of the Swiss units present will be put alone in a boat south of the island at you earliest convenience, were he will be taken to Van Der Zaan to negotiate. In the mean time, do not try and leave the island with any ships or delay more then thirty minutes with sending the boat, as it would bring us great pain to be forced to shell the Swiss ships in the lagoon and raze all installations on the island.

The writing Bug has suddenly bitten, so here goes:-

The Norman Refrigerator ship SS King Dick, approximately 10nautical miles off Keeling Island, March 23rd, making 8knots, and heading North.

"The Sun's coming up sir!" the lookout shouted as he hung over the Bridge rail.
"Very well. Helmsman, maintain course and speed. I'm going to have a few hours rest." Captain Dove stated, thoroughly in command of his new ship.
"Sir! Ships on the Starboard Bow, Dutch, and Swiss!" The lookout screamed in excitement, causing Captain Dove to move across to the Starboard side of the Bridge; "By Jove, your right. Swiss and Dutch Warships! It looks like they are facing off at each other." Dove replied, his telescope to his left eye.
"Ensign, get the radio room to send the following message to Major Daniels in Jakarta; 'Have sighted Dutch and Swiss warships facing off, am taking action to get out of danger zone.' Give him our reference position Number one." Dove stated authoritatively; "Helm, get us well away from here!"
"Aye, Aye Sir!" stated the Helmsman, only to happy to oblige.

Every single fishing trawler has wireless? And what the hell the UKA is doing in the Indian Ocean, 10000nm away from the closest UKA port?
The first purpose of a warship is to remain afloat. Anon.

The UNK's Merchant Navy serves many French Ports, and the SS King Dick is sailing from New Amsterdam with a load of frozen Lamb bound for New Zion, ready for Passover.

It does not matter, as all the Dutch ships will jam that singal for all they are worth. And they got stronger transmitters then the merchantman...

Dunno if jamming would work with spark telegraphs, I doubt Dutch ships has the power for that - if they are keep generating white noise expect the W/T to break down in a matter of hours. OTOH, the range of those W/Ts are the order of hundreds not thousands of  miles.

Bridge of the SS King Dick

Ensign: "Sir the Radio room reports that there is incredible static in the air!"
Captain Dove, (obviously annoyed): "Right, order the signals officer to put the message onto two pigeons, one will certainly get to Major Daniels!"
Ensign: "Yes Sir!"

Minutes latter two carrier pigeons are released.

If there is anything a spark telegraph is good at it is jamming, as it put out allot of noise over the entire spectrum, that is why they disappeared, they hade a strong tendency to jam each other. So jamming basically is transmitting junk, then stop and se if the other one is still trying to send, if so, they will continue to send junk letters.

Batavia, not Jakarta.
Batavia is around 1800km away.

Keeling is about 500nm NW of the real position.

Sorry, Batavia.
1800km needs a powerful transmitter in those days ...

Would Soorabaja be closer?
