Greatly appreciated :) but it should be a simple fix to the modem (only problem is it won't register the dial tone/connection, everything else is fine, it picks up off the hook, and the diagnositc says its operational...) in the Compaq circa 2006, and until then I can use Mom's shiny new toy. :)

(And then we upgrade the video card in the "new-old" computer, and acquire Combat Flight Simulator.  ;D )

New modem in middling-old (WinXP 2005) computer works!

However the "conventional" monitor is going to take some getting re-used to...the difference from the widescreen flatscreen is way worse than the differnce between this monitor and the old-old Gateway's...

No computer problems this time, but "user error". I accidentally overwrote/deleted some of the data I kept in a .TXT file, forgetting to save as a new file before pasting a Spring* report into said file.  ::)  I don't think there was anything important in there (thankfully I had been creating seperate files for all the really important stuff), but if any inconstancies creep in, you know what to blame...
