To the Desk of Admiral Leary
on the Baltic Confederation Fleet
Febuary 17th, 1918

This report, which has been placed upon your desk by the CSA Naval Intelligence and Research Commission, is to ascertain the strength of the Baltic Confederation Navy, of all ships in commisssion or under construction.

General Kasser
10 16'', 14-20 6'', c. 24-26 knots, 14'' belt, 6''  Shocked deck, 41,000 tons

The most powerful ship in constuction anywhere in the world. The heavist guns in existence are mounted on this ship. It is faster than most battleships and early battlecruisers. The biggest and the best.

Ocean Class-3
9 16'', 10-12 6'', 26 knots, 14'' belt, 6''  Shocked deck, 35,000 tons

Another one of the fast battleship type. Not as fast as the others, but much more heavily armoured and armed. Mounting only one less gun than the General, we view it here to be more effective than its larger brother.

Torden-2
6 12'', 8 8'', 8 5'', 23 knots, 12'' belt, 2'' deck, 15,000 tons

One of the few semi-Arcadia's still in existence. Even though the armerment looks good on paper, the 8'' guns interfer with the fire control for the heavy guns. The deck is not up to CSA armour standards.

Ultor-2
8 12'', 8 6'', 8 5'', 20 knots, 14'' belt, .5'' deck, 17,121 tons

A lighter than normal Arcadia, but with a very light deck that can't stand up to a destroyers shells. The guns are lighter, but with more than our equivelents.

Preussen-4
8 14'', 8 6'', 12 4'', 22-23 knots, 14'' belt, 4'' deck, 24,000 tons

A powerful ship, capable of standing up to the Oklahoma's. Very capable in their role.

Gujarat-2
9 12'', 12 5'', 26 knots, 8'' belt, 3'' deck, 16,500 tons

One of the Light Battlecruisers that our Wheeler is desended from. Much like the Aquero's, but it sacrifices speed for guns. It is believed that the Ocean class is as fast as this ship, making it obsolete except for colonial duties.

Isejell-6
6 8'', 8 5'', 5 4'', 16 knots, 8'' belt, .5'' deck, 5,500 tons

A very old armoured cruiser. The armoured deck is the same thickness as the Ultors, making this ship very weak to long range fire. Most battleships can catch this ship, making these not even fit for colonial duties.

Vind
4 8'', 10 4'', 21 knots, 9'' belt, .5'' deck, 7,500 tons

Another old armoured cuiser, intended to be the flagship of the previous. Mounts less main guns, but has much increased speed, making this ship worthy for duties in places such as New Zion. Deck is very weak, easily penetratable.

City-2
8 8'', 10-12 5'', 26-27 knots, 7'' belt, 4'' deck, 11,000 tons

A modern armoured cruiser, meant for scouting purposes. The deck is very thick, but the belt is lighter than in previous classes. Speed is typical for a ship of this era.

County-12
10 6'', 4-8 3.5'', 27 knots, 4'' belt, 1.5'' deck, 6,000 tons

A heavier than normal 3rd class cruiser, with the extra weight going to heavier armour and firepower. Very useful as high seas patrol craft.

Im. County
8 6'', 4-8 3.5'', 29 knots, 6'' belt, 2'' deck, 6,000 tons

A flagship for the previous. It sacificices 2 guns for 2 knots. The armour is thicker on this class than on previous classes.

Overview: The Baltic Confederation has many powerful battleships under construction, but at a cost of deficienticy in light cruisers. Most of the 2nd class cruisers are obsolete, and the 1st cruisers a have are too slow and underarmoured to be used in a war againist on of the fast battleships. They have the world's most powerful guns and heavily armoured ships, but certain ships have very thin deck armour. All in all, this is a powerful navy for its terrian, needing heavy ships as opposed to light. They have a large destroyer fleet. The CSA can compete in a war on pretty much equal terms until the Ocean and General classes are complete.

Im afraid I wouldnt agree on the Kasser... Its guns arnt the most powerfull (that honor goes to Hood) and im not to sure about the belt (it only covers about 50% of the hull)

I'm not covering that, and since this is intelligence, stuff is bound to be wrong. My allies will seem to have worse ships, because we know more about them.

To the Desk of Admiral Leary
on the Bavarian Fleet
Febuary 24th, 1918

This report, which has been placed upon your desk by the CSA Naval Intelligence and Research Commission, is to ascertain the strength of the Barvarian Navy, of all ships in commisssion or under construction.

Prinzregent Luitpold-2
24-26 7'', 6 4'' , 26-30 knots, 7-9'' belt, 2-2.5'' deck, 13,500 tons

The most powerful ship in the Barvarian fleet, this ship has been nicknamed the "Porcupine" by some, as it gives the appearance of one. This ship is uniquely able to crush anything unarmoured because of its vast broadside. However, this ship only can fire two guns if being chased or chasing.

Baden-Baden-2
12 4'', 24.4 knots, 3'' belt, 1'' deck, 3,500 tons

The first ship in the Barvarian navy after their independence, it was one of the most powerful light cruisers in the Adriatic during its prime days. However, now it is slower than most ships in the Adriatic, and is redeemed only by its small size and fairly heavy armerment.

Breslau II-3
8-12 6'', 8 4'', 27-29 knots, 3'' belt, 1'' deck, 5,000 tons

A larger, newer Baden-Baden, with slightly more speed, but much larger guns, and more of them. It is about the size of a Chattanooga plus a G-class. Very fearsome, much like a miniture Prinzregant.

Overview: Barvaria has a decent enough navy for its purposes. In a war, it can depend upon the 30 or so torpedo boats to hold back the enemy while pressing ahead with its navy. In a allanice war, the modern cruisers could be found with the combined fleet, with the Baden-Baden's on escort duties. Barvaria normally has spare resources it uses to construct ships for foreign nations, and should be looked into if in need of ships. It is friendly with us, but in a war, would be crushed desicivly by our navy. However, we are much above their class.

ooc : silly me, I should have thought of that, went with prominent rulers instead... I suppose the 2 gun comment is fair, even if the fore/aft casements make the actual number higher.

As a storyline quibble, I'd prefer to see data closer to the "official" data. I rather doubt the CSA has expended much effort infiltrating Bavarian design agencies to find out better.

That was the released "normal displacement" at 15,000 tons. Using normal factors, the CSA can narrow it down 2,000 tons to light.

I was referring more to the speed and armor being 'correct' for a ship thats not even launched in the case of the Luitpold class.  As for tonnage,  Light vs. Standard tonnage bounces up and down depending on shell load and fuel loading, so a wide range will be "correct".

To the Desk of Admiral Leary
on the Netherlands Fleet
Febuary 28th, 1918

This report, which has been placed upon your desk by the CSA Naval Intelligence and Research Commission, is to ascertain the strength of the Netherlands Navy, of all ships in commisssion or under construction.

Jacob von Heemskerck-2
8 14'', 14 6'', 8-12 3.5'', 17-21 knots, 12.5'' belt, 2.5'' deck, 18,000 tons

The last arcadia's ever constructed by the Dutch, this class mounts 8 14'' guns on the same displacement as the Virginia. However, this class mounts the guns in a cross deck arrangment, and due to problems with spacing, only 6 main guns can fire a broadside at any one time. They recently received a refit that pushed up their speed to 17-21 knots.

Kolonien-2
4 14'', 10-12 5'', 16-17 knots, 6'' belt, 2'' deck, 6,000 tons

Meant as colonial station ships, these ship mount a very weak armour, have very low speed, and have a pre-arcadia arrangment. They are too slow to stand in the line of battle, and are too underarmoured to have any use besides shore bombardment and fire support. The Dutch would have been better off building a light battlecruiser of 12,000 tons with the same resources.

Marquis der Brugge
4 8.3'', 12 6'', 6-16 3.5'', 19-20 knots, 6'' belt, 2'' deck, 9,000 tons

The oldest frigate still in service in the Dutch navy, it was orignally in a class of 4. This ship has too low a speed to be effective, and too small a armerment to be dangerous, for a modern war. The armour is fairly decent for the time it was built.  However, too slow and weak for anything short of colonial duty.

Amsterdam
10 8.3'', 12-14 5'', 20-21 knots, 7'' belt, 2'' deck, 11,500 tons

A improvement on the Brugge class, mounting 6 more main guns on the wings, meaning a broadside of 7 guns. It has slightly heavier armour than the previous. However, too slow and weak for anything short of colonial duty, besides escorting the Jacob battleships.

Flandres
12 9.5'', 14-22 5'', 23-24 knots, 8'' belt, 2.5'' deck, 13,000 tons

Following the gradual progression of Dutch frigates, this mounts 12 9.5'' guns, of which 9 can fire on a broadside. This ship has decent armour, and makes speed equivelent to our Tennessee's. Although this would be slaughtered by any battlecruiser, she is a very good ship for her size and strength,

der Zaan-2
8 9.5'', 10-14 5'', 20-21 knots, 8'' belt, 2'' deck, 9,000 tons

Protesting againist the increasing size of ships, the Dutch laid down this trio of ships in order to preform roles that didn't need a 13,000 tons ship. It is less powerful, and a step backwards. These are no good for anything except for escorting and colonial duties.

Janszen-2
8 12'', 14-20 5'', 25 knots, 10'' belt, 2'' deck, 16,000 tons

The first battlecruiser layed down by the Dutch. Capable of 25 knots, it still is one of the best first generation (besides the Swiss) battlecruisers in existance. The one flaw in the ship is the weaker deck than would be desired.

Inbnir Nis
6 14'', 14-20 5'', 25 knots, 8'' belt, 2'' deck, 16,000 tons

A slight modification of the Janszen hull led to this. The 8 12'' were replaced by 6 14''. In a modern war, these ships would be disadvantaged to equivelent ships of the same size, such as the Monarch's, because of the lack of main guns to establish a bracket or fire control position from.

der Netherladen-2
8 15'', 10-18 5'', 27 knots, 10'' belt, 3'' deck, 25,000 tons

The most powerful battlecruiser in commission in the world currently. Mounting the same amount of guns as a Alabama, it sacificices some armour for speed and is lighter by 5,000 tons. It has a major problem with ammunition and damage control, as illistrated by the loss of the Tromp. Still, it is an extrordinarily powerful ship.

de Ruyter-2
8 15'', 18-28 5'', 28-31 knots, 11'' belt, 4'' deck, 33,000 tons

A upgraded der Netherladen. With increased speed, increased armour, and better damage control, this ship will be within the top five most powerful ships when completed, and certainly the best in its weight class. This ship has big bang for the buck.

Simbawa
6 6'', 4-8 3.5'', 22-23 knots, 4'' belt, 2'' deck, 5,000 tons

A very old protected cruiser. Mounting a heavy armerment, this ship has deficeticies in its speed. Many modern battleships are fast than it. This ship is obsolete, to the extreme. Could be a good station ship.

Boreno-2
6 6'', 4-8 3.5'', 23-24 knots, 4'' belt, 2'' deck, 4,000 tons

A repeat of the previous class, but using improved engines and oil firing to lose weight and gain speed. Not as obsolete. Could be a excellent small staion flaghip.

Groninign
9 6'', 26 knots, 3'' belt, 1'' deck, 3,800 tons

The lightest cruiser yet, decreasing armour for armerment and speed. The last cruiser built in the Dutch fleet, it is one of the most effective ships they have.

Jager-2
3 5'', 2-4 3.5'', 27-28 knots, 2,500 tons

The lightest, fastest ship in the Dutch cruiser fleet. It sacrifices guns and armour for speed. Our Chattanooga's are faster than it, though.

Overview: The Dutch fleet do have the most powerful battlecruisers in the world, and more than anyone else. They also have an extremely large destroyer fleet. But this comes with the lack of no cruisers whatsoever. No cruiser has been built by the Dutch fleet in over 9 years. This means, that in a war, our cruisers can waste their destroyer fleet, as the battlecruisers are too precious to waste unless it was a monster attack. In a Lepzing Pact war, the Dutch would mainly be charged with scouting and raiding for the main fleet, the ESC, which the Jacob would join. The Barvarian's would most likely escort. In a war, the battles would be incomparable, as it would be speed vs. armour. Other than that, we have a fairly equal fleet to them, with their advantage near the coast, and our advantage in the ocean.
